Biography

Jüri (Yuri) Alperten was born in Tallinn, Estonia in 1957 to a family of musicians. In 1979 he graduated cum laude from the Estonian Academy of Music. His major fields of concentration being piano under Prof Bruno Lukk and orchestral conducting under Prof Roman Matsov. In the same year he was admitted to the St Petersburg Conservatory for postgraduate studies in opera and orchestral conducting. Four years were spent working with Prof Ilya Musin. Jüri Alperten has conducted with Estonian National Symphony Orchestra, Minsk Philharmonic, Cishinau Philharmonic, St Petersburg Philharmonic, USSR Ministry of Culture Symphony Orchestra, Hungarian Radio Orchestra, Budapest Philharmonic, Latvian National Symphony Orchestra, Plzen Radio Orchestra, Estonian National Opera, Latvian National Opera, Finnish National Opera, Gothenburg Opera, etc. Since 1998 is he the chief conductor of the Pärnu City Orchestra.

Det är flott, men koreografin förmår inte helt fylla musikens nyanser. Denna afton är det främst Tjajkovskij som tar hem spelet. Estländaren Jüri Alperten leder orkestern in i känslornas dalgångar utan att det ekar falsk patetik. Någon enstaka klang blir luddig i Svansjön, men så är ju scenen full av fjädrar. Dirigent Jüri Alperten /.../ tegi seekord ühe oma parematest esinemistest. Salieri teoste puhul sobis hästi temale omane joviaalsus, dirigendi žestid lõid vastava meeleolu. Salieri orkestriesitusest jäid enim kõrvu flöödi elegantsed ning stiilsed soolod. “Reekviemi” ja filmi vapustavad kokkupuutepunktid olid filmist nähtud haige Mozarti komponeerimisstseen, tema ettelauldud viisijuppidest välja kasvav orkestrikõla ja selle ülevõtmine juba tõelise, kontserdisaalis mängiva orkestri poolt. /.../ Jüri Alperten suutis aeglased osad (eriti Lacrimosa) kujundada lausa sündmuseväärselt meeldejäävaks. Siin mängis kaasa Alperteni kui dirigendi eripära mitte hoida orkestrit raudses haardes ja valitseda, vaid lasta muusikal vabalt voolata ning interpreetidel sellevõrra avaneda.
